The best feminine fragranceby Kirthi Sri Karunaratne
The first fragrance by Lolita Lempicka was introduced to the women of Sri Lanka by the parfumerie at a launch held at the boutique at the Majestic City, a few days ago. This innocent and devastating, pure and precious, light and enduring fragrance will soon be the dream perfume of many a woman. Reshma and Manu Hundlani hosted the event and gave to the fashion conscious, the winner of the 1998 French Fifi Award, crowning it the best 1997 feminine fragrance.
Stars of the silver screen, beauty queen of the days gone by and socialites gathered to savour the perfume and to mingle and exchange ideas on this newest perfume which in a dream like fantasy comes in a bottle of sheer beauty.
Not only fragrance, but style was evident this evening. Film star Sabeetha Perera made news in a simple black dress worn with a long jacket the flared collar and the hemlines trimmed in a red and yellow spun braid. Her accessories were in black and she wore gold jewellery.
Black was also the choice of Karen Mortier, who brought drama to the dress with a print of an outsize poppy in shades of red and pin at the back. Reshma Hundlani wore a sleeveless dress also in black with a cross over at the top trimmed in black buttons. A large onyx pendent and earstuds to match completed the sophisticated outfit.
Roshi Dharmaratne wore a long robe of white silk, appliqued in champagne over a suit style in the same colour. This was a Yolanda creation. Many sarees that caught the eye for style and colour were worn by several women, among them a sapphire blue chiffon worked in shaded ribbon in blue that Harshini Nadesan wore, with pearls for jewellery.
The shot turquoise silk saree Razeena Zarani wore had a printed border in a deeper shade with a pallu in a more elaborate design. She wore a single strand necklace of grey pearls, with earstuds to match and picked up the colour with her handbag.
The flowers of summer were painted on the saree Shyamalee Tudawe wore in rust and ochre on a ecru background of crisp cotton patterened in large checks in subdued gold. It was an evening that Lolita Lempicka rated as one of the most talentous French fashion designers would have cherished if she was around.
Radiant bride
The radiant bride we feature today is Charshani, the daughter of Sisira and Sirance Nanayakkara, who was married to Ranil, the son of Philip and Sarddha Cooray at St. Theresas Church, Thimbi- origasyaya, followed by a poruwa ceremony and dinner reception at the Galle Face Hotel. Friends and relations gathered to wish the couple many years of happiness in their new life in a new century.
The bride wore a saree of embossed organza, the motifs in subdued silver defined in a more glittery silver. The blouse in the same fabric had little cap sleeves and a round neckline. Her long tulle veil flowed from a delicate headdress of fresh flowers and she carried a bouquet of orchids mingled with ivy leaves and ferns. Her jewellery was of diamonds.
The mother of the groom, Sarddha, had her deep blue tanchoi silk saree bordered in a tapestrie of a gold weave with hints of jewel colour.
The blouse of a brocade weave was in the same colours. Her jewellery was of Ceylon stones to pick up the colours in the outfit.
Charmaines annual event
It is an annual event at the end of the year or at the beginning of a new one, the party Charmaine Jayetilleke hosts for her friends and relations, when she comes to Sri Lanka. As always, around her gather friends who dress with charm and style. Charmaine herself this time wore a dress in a contemporary print in black and white, with a necklace of white beads, with an occasional black bead in it.
A blackskirt Savithri Baddewla teamed with a high necked black top glamourised in silver bead leaf motifs. Romola Sivasunderam wore a slate toned jacket over her black blouse and pants, trimmed on the collar and at the hemline in scrolls of black.
Sunethra Wijetilleke picked on a saree of printed silk in subtle shades of lilac and turquoise, to be bordered in a green and gold, she wore with a green blouse.
The saree Onitha Weeratunge wore was a rhapsody of colour, with oranges mingling with green and traces of pink, with a woven gold border. For effective contrast her blouse and her accessories were in pink. Her jewellery was in discs of black set on gold.
Hatred the other side of loveHate is the other side of love, and, next to it, the strongest emotion. In many cases, its power exceeds that of love.
Hate is really anger. One becomes angry as a result of a reaction of another person or incident which caused dissatisfaction.
Todays films, television and various literature, all encourage the expression of hatred. The hero always expresses own anger in the most violent manner which others follow when they get angry.
To feel angry at times is natural for a human being. But, becoming angry more frequently it would be due to some kind of wrong behaviour of the person. Such unusual characteristics easily could be found out through ones horoscopes. For some people anger is continual state of existence and their actions are motivated by it.
As we discussed earlier, love is due to auspicious female planets, Moon and Venus, and hate is due to unholy and male planets, Mars and Saturn.
So, one can understand how and from which source these two different attitudes sympathy and kindness related love and hate are born.
Mars rules blood of the human body as Venus rules human feelings and Moon the mind. Love and hate associate heart. When the heart influenced by auspicious Moon or Venus it will reflect love and kindness. But, when influenced by afflicted Mars the heart will turn the other way displaying anger and hate when the heart was pumped with impure blood.
Saturn gives power for hate in another way. Saturn causes certain physical weaknesses which mainly cause ill-health. When a person suffers due to physical weaknesses such as ill-health, the position will lead to mental problems too. When ones mental condition is weakened the person becomes angry occasionally.
The position of Mars and Saturn in first, fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth, tenth and twelfth houses will result in such a position and the person will be a hate filled person due to hesitancy and unrest. Such a person cannot carry out any work peacefully.
If these two planets are combined in one house in ones chart it will be a great disadvantage in respect of the progress of person. Even in worldly affairs severe disasters such as wars and similar calamities that cause a disappearance of love and peace are due to combination of these two malefics. - Sugathadasa Jayasekera
