Two RPCs killed

Batticaloa: Two reserve police constables (RPCs) were killed on Friday in an LTTE ambush at Bar Street in Batticaloa, security sources said.

According to the sources the two RPCs were riding a motorcycle around 10.45 p.m. when they were ambushed. The Tigers had snatched their T-56 assault rifles.

The two men, attached to the Mamangama police post in the Batticaloa Headquarters police area, were escorting a sick constable from Mamangama to the base hospital, Batticaloa. The sick man was travelling in a three wheeler while the two policemen were riling behind.

The distance between Mamangama police post and the base hospital is about two miles, the sources said.

The two deceased RPCs were named as Athula Kumara and Sunil Wimaladasa.
