BATTICALOA — Large areas of Batticaloa district has been plunged into total darkness after six electric pylons supplying power to Batticaloa district from Habarana substation were damaged on Friday.

The damaged six electric pylons bring 33,000 Kws of power five kilometres south west from Welikande. Batticaloa district is supplied with power from Inginiyagala and Habarana Substations. A larger area is being supplied power from Habarana, CEB sou- rces said.

CEB work gangs were working round the clock to repair the damaged pylons CEB sources said.
