Singer Akai Nidahas Tournament
Weather ruins cricket
Channaka de Silva, reporting from Galle

The fourth Singer Akai Nidahas Trophy limited over cricket tournament match which was to be played at Galle International Cricket Stadium between Sri Lanka and India was called off due to rain yesterday.

As expected, heavy monsoonal rains lashed the venue overnight as well as in the morning ruling out any chance of play at the ground, notorious for inadequate drainage facilities. Anyway, with the amount of rain experienced no play would have been possible even in the world's best cricket ground.

Strong gusts which accompanied the heavy deluge, forced the tin roof of the temporary spectator stands at one end of the match to fly-off.

The game was finally called off by umpires after an inspection at 11.30 a.m.

India and Sri Lnaka received one point each.
