Crude oil slick pollutes coast off Colombo port
COLOMBO, 30 JUNE98 - Supporters of Sri Lanka's Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) carry their leader Douglas Devananda to the hospital after he was stabbed in a town, south of the capital Colombo June 30. The EPDP, a former militant group, now supports the ruling People's Alliance in parliament. Details of the stabbing were sketchy and Devananda was said to be in serious condition in a Colombo hospital. Devananda was assaulted while visiting some Tamils who were on a hunger strike. (Reuter)
