  • Over appointment of new IGP
    Two senior DIGs opt to retire
    Two of the most senior DIGs in the police are expected to send in their retirement papers over the appointment of Senior DIG Lucky Kodituwakku to succeed IGP W.B. Rajaguru who retires on August 31, high ranking police sources said.

    ``They got their papers signed by the outgoing IGP on Friday and are expected to submit them to the Defence Secretary on Monday,'' a senior police source said yesterday.
    The two Senior DIGs concerned are Messrs. Kingsley Wickramasuriya (Intelligence and VIP Security) and Gamini Gunwardene (Crimes & Criminal Intelligence).

The Muslim United Liberation Front (MULF) demonstrated in Colombo on Friday against US strikes against targets in Afghanistan and Sudan. Police did not permit the demonstrators who mustered outside Kollupitiya Mosque and wanted to march up to the American Embassy to approact the mission. The demonstrators are pictored here shouting slogans and waving placards against the barriers at which they were stopped.
