Performance of India's renowned Bharatanatyam exponent

Prathibha Prahlad, one of India's most gifted and celebrated exponents of Bharatha Natyam and Kuchipudi will conduct a lecture cum demonstration on 8th September at the Indian Cultural Centre and perform at the BMICH auditorium on 9th September, a press release from the Indian High Commission said.

A classical dancer who was trained under Gurus Smt. and Prof. U. S. Krishna Rao, her perfect execution of the dance forms and her singularly vivacious style of dance has earned her rave reviews all over India. She has at various times been called "The Goddess of Art, Music, Culture and Beauty" and "...possibly the most accomplished dancer of the present generation". Prathibha Prahlad has performed in numerous countries abroad and has the distinction of being the classical dancer to be invited to perform at the OKAYAMA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL in Japan in 1993 and the classical dancer from India to be invited for the MANILA INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL in 1991.

With a master's degree in Mass Communication she frequently lectures at seminars, conducts workshops and lectures-cum-demonstrations and has presented many papers on Dance. At a very young age she was awarded the junior fellowship by the Dept. of Culture, Government of India to study the "Devadasi" system of dance in North Karnataka, and is now a senior fellow of the Dept. of Culture. She often contributes to newspapers and her articles have been as much appreciated as her dancing. She has also performed for television and acted in a few television serials.

This dazzling danseuse has been piled up with titles and awards including the "Karnataka Kalasri" a Government of Karnataka award and the "Mahila Shiromani" awarded for excellence in dance.

Public performance - 9th September at 6.00 p.m. (BMICH auditorium).
