| Kandy steamroll old Zahirians by Ravi Nagahawatte The winners simply looked unstoppable and made inroads into the Old Zahirians defence at will in a sixty minute period where they crossed the line on nine occasions . The team from the hill capital of Kandy were in full spirits in their second outing of the tournament and scored first through winger Sameera Silva six minutes into the game. Right winger Radika Hettiarchchi displayed gazel like speed as he touched twice ,one in each half , and also showed what a team man he was by gifting his third try in the first half to team mate Yapa following a forty metre burst. Centre Amir Sarjahan (1) and Malith Silva (2) also contributed with tries to swell the score to 36 at the short whistle.Linkman Nilufer Ibrahim added the extra points to three of the tries. The Old Zahirians failed to put up any worthwhile resistance even after the "breather" as Kandy scored thrice more to complete a grand victory.Hettiarachchi opened scoring again with powerful run on the right flank followed by fly half Jagath Pushpakumara who went over twice. The only time Old Zahirians showed their worth was when they scored through winger M.S.Thasim who touched down after following a chip kick made by Rizan Saldin inside the opposotion ten . Referee-Shamrath Fernando Kandy now meet Havelocks in the second semi final which is scheduled for Wednesday while CR and FC take on arch rivals Ch and FC on Tuesday. Both matches will be played at Longden Place. |
