Lankan ruggerites lose both matches

Asoka Goonetilleke reporting from Malaysia
Sri Lanka lost both their rugby matches to the powerful All Blacks side from New Zealand 80-0 and to hosts Malaysia 35-26 in the Group 'D' Rugby Sevens at the Petaling Jaya grounds.

This means that Sri Lanka is out of this championship and their next match would be decided according to their points. Sides that drop out in the first round, will be drawn into the Bowl and Plate Championships.

In the game against Malaysia, Prop forward, Nazeem Mohamed, wing three quarter M. Mushtaq and centre Alfred Hensman were among the tries while fly half, Asnaka Rodrigo converted.

Sri Lanka had no answer to the All Blacks with Jonah Lomu, Christian Kallinnen and Dallas Samur doing the bulk of the scoring for All Blacks.

Meanwhile, the first gold medal of the Games was won by Jay Sweet of Australia in the Individual Road Race yesterday. The time taken was 3:1:56.00.
