Sriyani in London to produce teledrama

From Sujeeva Nivunhella, our London Correspondent
Veteran film star Sriyani Amarasena was here in London producing a tele-drama. She has just completed a two-month stint in her new role, filming the London scenes of a story that runs between Sri Lanka and England, directed by Sudath Rohana.

The script for the teledrama has been written by Daya Alwis, and the cast includes Harry Wimalasena, Sasanthi Jayasekera, Ramesh Ekanayake, Sheela Madawala, Anura Hegoda and Reggie Fernando.

Interviewed by this writer shortly before she returned to Sri Lanka, Sriyani said she had always dreamed of producing a teledrama in England, and now her dream has come true, thanks to the generosity of Wimal Alahakoon, Lilani Perera and Tissa Madawala, who have borne half the cost of the production.

"We have selected a popular cast from Sri Lanka for the major roles and have also introduced some of our friends in London for minor roles," Sriyani said, adding her thanks to Daya Alwis for producing an excellent script at very short notice.

Director Sudath Rohana said it was a novel experience for him, particularly because lack of funds compelled them to use old cameras and less technical staff than they would have had in Sri Lanka. The title of the teledrama has not yet been decided.
