South Africa clinches Wills Trophy in commanding finish
DHAKA, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Jacques Kallis took five wickets as West Indies lost their last seven wickets for 65 runs in the Wills International Cup final against South Africa on Sunday.
West Indies failed to make the most of a maiden one-day international century by opener Philo Wallace and were bowled out for 245 in 49.3 overs.
Kallis ripped through the middle order and tail. In a spell of 7.3 overs he removed Carl Hooper (49) and Phil Simmons (8), both caught by Jonty Rhodes, and tailenders Ridley Jacobs (14), Rawl Lewis (0) and Reon King (7), all leg before.
West Indies took 25 overs to reach 100, spinners Pat Symcox and Nicky Boje keeping the batsmen in check. Symcox conceded just 29 runs from his 10 overs.
But once Wallace reached his half century off 72 balls he ripped into the bowling, adding his second 50 in just 26 balls and bringing up his century with two consecutive fours off paceman Steve Elworthy.
His innings of 103 off 102 balls included five huge sixes and 11 fours. He was eventually stumped off Hansie Cronjes gentle medium pace.
Carl Hoopers 49 was the only other significant contribution to the West Indies total.

Susanthika equals Asian Games mark in nationals
by Shirajiv SirimaneSusanthika Jayasinghe became the central figure of the 76th National Athletic Championships when she established a new Sri Lanka record in the short sprint at the Sugathadasa Stadium last night.
Running after a forced nine month isolation from the track, Susanthika clocked 11.27 seconds and equalled the Asian Games mark, in the process.
Sporting a new hair Afro hair style, resembling that of Jamaican sprinter Ottey she clearly proved that it was a one horse race all the way as she finished with a clear 5 metre lead.
She said that this record was not an unexpected one but premeditated. I was also aiming for the 200 metres record which I missed by a few seconds. But I expected Damayanthi Dharsha to run but she failed to turn up. I always wanted competition and her absence put me off", she said.
Asked why she was spending time, money and energy for hair styling, she said they were all free of charge. "Only I had to spend nearly five and half hours for it," she added.
Meanwhile Damayanthi Dharsha, for the second time improved on her own national mark in the 400 m sprint by running home in 52.35 seconds.
The third record of the second day of the nationals was stamped in the Womens Tripple Jump event by Thusari Ariyaratne who cleared 12.53 m.
Much more competition was expected at the national championships and it seemed that the national records had dried up.
Meanwhile Trackmaster Sports Club once again retained its supremacy by taking the overall championships with 39 points while newly formed Lanka Lions (35) Kegalle AAA (28) followed closely.

A drawn game at Moratuwa
(From Reggie Goonewardene Our Moratuwa Sports Corr)A third wicket partnership of 145 runs between Pubudu Ranaweera and Janaka Gunaratne was the highlight of the drawn inter-school cricket match between Prince of Wales College Moratuwa and Mahinda College Galle. Ranaweera struck a fine unbeaten century (120) inclusive of 13 boundaries and Gunaratne 40 runs, but rain curtailed play at 2.30 p.m. For Mahinda College, T. Rupasinghe bowled well to claim 3 wickets for 48 runs.
Scores:
Prince of Wales 1st innings 275/4 decl. (Shammika Fernando 22, Hashantha Fernando 32, Pubudu Ranaweera 120 not out, Janaka Wannakuwatta 37, Janaka Gunaratne 40, T. Rupasinghe 3/48).
Sri Lanka suffered a humiliating defeat against Singapore in the 16th Asian Rugby Championship final at National Stadium yesterday under lights amidst a capacity crowd by 25 points (2 goals, a try and 2 penalties to 13 (one goal and two penalties) after trailing 10-3 at the short break. One of the causes for this defeat was some pathetic forward play. Sri Lanka went in as the favourites. But the Lankan forwards only won four line outs throughout the game and even they got themselves shoved in their scrums.
Sri Lanka went into this match sans Asoka Jayasena who will be out for a few months due to a knee injury.
On the other hand, the host nation put up a gallant performance throughout the entire game. They capitalised on the Lankan mistakes and went attacking. Their forwards dominated the set pieces and supported the backs beautifully. The combination was far superior than the opponents who had a lot of patches in their defence.
The Singaporeans started like as a house on fire and occupied the Lankan half more than 20 minutes. Centre Dughall Aitken hit the post with a fourth minute penalty, but the pressure was telling as Singapore finally surged ahead with a penalty goal by flanker Clarence Lam, nine minutes later. They scored their first try when lock Rong Jinxiang won a line out ten meters out and was driven over the pack. Lam made the score 10-0 with the conversion from a difficult angle.
Sri Lanka came in to the limelight by winning more possession and forced Singapore into mistakes. Scrum half Nilufer Ibrahim got his team on the scoreboard with a 30-meter penalty conversion. This scoring was done after 36 minutes of play and he almost came closer to adding a further three points of a 45-meter range kick which fell short to the upright.
After the turn around Singapore survived several calls. Their vice-captain and prop forward Leong Jee Wong steadied the ship with a try from a driving maul and three minutes later skipper Terrence Khoo scored under the post after fullback Bruce Frame joined the line and slung out a perfect pass.
Koo converted a penalty to seal the game. B. M. Dharmapala sneaked through the Singapore defence to plant a try for Sri Lanka and Ibrahim goaled it.
The Japanese referee who controlled the game made some poor decisions which was one of the reasons for Lankas defeat. Sri Lanka had met Singapore thrice within the space of two years. This is first time they lost so badly.
Indrajith Bandaranayake has been appointed to lead the Lankan team at the Sevens Tournament which will be held on November 7 and 8 at the Singapore Cricket Club grounds. Around 24 teams are likely to take part in this event. The grouping and the draw will be notified later.
The Sri Lanka hockey team, now on a tour of India beat an Indian Southern Railway team by 6 goals to 2 at Madras on Friday.
The scorers for Sri Lanka were Saman Jayalath (3), Nadith Kudagama (2) and M. Fayal (1). For the losers, K. Keerth and L. Karunanandan scored a goal each.
Sri Lanka will play three tests against India on November 9, 11 and 13.
