Youth with foreign currency detained

A Sri Lankan youth who attempted to emplane a Singapore Airlines flight to Singapore last morning was found to be carrying U.S. dollars and Deutsche Marks currencies to the Value of Rupees 2.1 million, Airport Custom Sources said.The youth had concealed the currencies in his under clothes when he was detected by Assistant Superintendent of Customs Rangith Eddusuriya.
After initial inquries Deputy Director of Customs Bopagoda imposed a penalty of rupees one million on the suspect and confiscated the foreign currency.
The suspect was being detained at Airport by Customs at the time of going to Press.
KOTTE - Kotte Mayor cum Attorney-at-Law Chandra de Silva is scheduled to table two proposals when the Kotte Municipal Council holds its next monthly meeting.
The Mayor will propose that a mutual friendship and brotherly co-existence be established between the Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Municipal Council and Chonkgwin Municipal Council of the Wangshu District of the People's Republic of China as suggested in a letter sent to him by that district's Director.
Council Member Upali Botheju will propose that a suitable plan be drawn up to provide houses or to discuss with the housing department to build houses for the people who are presently living in the unauthorized tenements along the railway lines running through Kotte, or at least to discuss with the railway authorities to arrive at some viable solution to the problem.
