Have your say
Code of conduct for sportsmen and womenWhilst heartily endorsing the view of the N.O.C. President Hemasiri Fernando, that a code of conduct is most necessary for Sri Lankan athletes, it is very relevant for all areas of sports in the country for the sake of discipline and the integrity and honour of the country.
It is sad to say the least, after blowing her trumpet 'A la Mohommed Ali, Susanthika Jayasinghe up and left the Asian Games not honouring her commitments to the country, disappointing millions of her fans who had liberally forgiven her earlier antics. She not only disappointed her fans but also her dedicated coach captain Dissanayake. This, simply with the excuse of medically unconfirmed report of a leg ailment after putting her foot in it by, blah-blah 'I am the only splinter etc.' This behaviour on the part of a National Athlete was jarring to the sensitive Sri Lankan fans at the time it was made and more so when she did the bolt. It is best to remember that idle boast which cannot be kept makes the boaster a coward.
Susanthika Jayasinghe should be well advised about her blah-blah' if she is to represent Sri Lanka in the future.

Veals Park SC in cricket finals
By T. Rajah - our Badulla Sports Correspondent
Veal's Park Sports Club qualified for the finals of the Division III knock-out cricket tournament when they beat the favourites - Badulla Maroons S.C. 'A' on a toss of a coin, when the match was abandoned due to bad weather at the Badulla Vincent Dias Stadium on Saturday.Overnight rain delayed the game and the match was restricted for 42 overs. Veal's Park S.C. batting first were all out for 115 in 31 overs. In reply Badulla Maroons lost quick wickets and when the rain interrupted they were 72 for 4 in 15 overs. However their main scorer Suranga Iriyawela was unbeaten with 19 runs but slippery grounds deprived any further play. Since this was a knock-out tournament, with the consent of the two captains the two umpires decided to toss a coin and the luck favoured Veal's Park S.C. to enter finals. However, later the Maroons S.C. sent in a protest but on receiving the report of the umpires, the competition committee overruled the protest.
Veal's Park S.C. will now meet Albions Sports Club, Welimada in the finals scheduled to be played on 3rd January 1999 at the Vincent Dias Stadium.
