Govt. funds are carefully and properly used - Lakshman Jayakody
Mirigama - We use government funds carefully and properly and therefore we could invest to develop the country despite an existing war, said Buddha Sasana Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Lakshman Jayakody at a meeting held at the 153rd Janaudana Gamm-anaya in Koshen-akanda, Botale recently.
The meeting was presided over by Ven. Kadigamuwe Pema-nanda thera of the Hapitigam Korale.
The Minister said that while developing the country, we must not destroy our religion and cultural affairs. We are supporting the improvement of both rural and big industries in our country.
Ven. Kadigamuwe Pemananda thera Namal Gunawardhana PS Chairman Mirigama and W. I. Jayaratne PS member also spoke.
Army deserter caught robbing
KALUTARA: A soldier who escaped from the army for the second occasion was caught red-handed while stealing a 10 kilo bag of Samba rice from a boutique during a breakdown in power.
The people present at the boutique caught him when he attempted to escape with the rice.
The suspect Ranjith Sisira Kumar of Devale Road, Alutgama was produced before the Kalutara, Magistrate, E. S. de Soyza who remanded him.
L. R. Gamage, OIC, Alutgama police told court that the suspect was handed over to the police by M. M. Sawahir a businessman of Dharga Town and the people of the area.
The suspect was also arrested earlier and handed over to the army headquarters.
Student on impersonation charge given bail
Kalutara - Kalutara acting magistrate Y. S. de Silva released on bail in Rs. 5,000, a 17 year old GCE (A/L) student of a school in Kalutara who had allegedly impersonated at the recent GCE (O/L) examination.
Sgt Gunatillaka of the Kalutara South police told court that on a complaint lodged by Daya Hettiarachchi, Deputy Director of Education the student was arrested while answering a question paper representing another student of a Katukurunda school.
