Pubudu and Asanka slam centuries Two superb centuries from Dharmaraja skipper Pubudu Seneviratne and his deputy Asanka Marapana was the highlight on the second day of the rain affected inter school cricket match at Katugastota against St. Anthonys College. Antonians who took first lease of the wicket, and got off to a splendid start, to score 141 for the loss of 5 wickets. They were all out for 212 runs in 55.3 overs. Ravindra Wickremapala made 47 with eight hits to the fence, Mohamed Pawas made 33 and there was a 61-run stand for the fourth wicket between Samson Burke (46) and Nafees Nizam (25), entertained the crowd. Pubudu Seneviratne and Asanka Marapana took three wickets each. In reply the Rajans were 146 for 2 at the end of the first day. Skipper Pubudu Seneviratne was unbeaten on 68 and deputy skipper Asanka Marapana unbeaten on 59. These two put on 120 runs for the 3rd wicket. Rajans went on to score 268 runs for 7 wickets declared. Jayampathy elected to World Body International Hockey Federation at its meeting held recently in Brussels appointed Jayampathy Perera to the Umpires Committee of the World Hockey governing body. The appointment period is for 4 years beginning from January 1999. Jayampathy Perera is the first Sri Lankan to receive the rare honour. He is the only Sri Lankan who umpired in an Olympic Games at Los Angeles in 1984. He is also the only one to achieve the international class one Olympic and World Hockey umpiring grade. Apart from that he has officiated at three consecutive Asian Games 1978 Bangkok, Thailand, 1982 New Delhi and 1986 Seoul, South Korea, Jayampathy has so far officiated in 68 international matches abroad. Jayampathy has held many a position in the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation as a Vice President, Hony. Secretary and Chairman, Umpires Committee. Some of the functions of the committee is to appoint umpires to the Olympic and World Cup Games and other International Tournaments conducted by the F.I.H., organise and conduct seminars, lectures and uniformity in the application of the rules, upgrading of umpires. Jayampathy is a product of St. Thomas College, Matale. Earlier he represented State Services and Nationalised Services in the National Hockey Championship. He was also the Secretary of the Colombo Hockey Association. Sri Lanka Womens Basketball Pool training is scheduled to commence on January 25 at 4.30 p.m. at the St. Josephs Girls School, Nugegoda. Players who are with the following requirements are eligible to participate: Participating in Senior/Junior National Championships conducted by the SLBF for the year 1998. Representation of an affiliate member Association/ Institute/ as a registered Club of an SLBF affiliate at a registered/ recognized tournament conducted during last six months. a talented coach Ranjith Colombage, Junior Cricket Coach has done his best for Antonian under 13 team for the last four years. In all four years he helped the side to enter the finals. Ranjith an all round cricketer, is a product of St. Sylvesters College, where he learnt his cricket under Bertie Nilagoda. He played for Central Province Schools at against the Australian School boys team. He also played for Kandy CC. A Park Master of the Play Grounds Department of the Kandy Municipal Council. In his very first year (1995) helped Antonians emerged as champions in the following three years, were joint champions with Maliyadeva College, St. Sebastians and St. Peters. He has a good talent of grooming young cricketers. Ragama C.C. led by former Dharmaloka cricketer Ananda Sarath Kumara entered the final round of the Div. III tournament for the fourth consecutive year when they defeated Gampaha C.C. at Wattala last Friday. The feature of the match was the brilliant batting of Eranga Jayasekara and Ananda Sarath of Ragama CC who scored 88 and 45. SCORES: Ragama CC 237 in 49.4 overs.
