Chandrika invites Ranil for
'fair elections' talks
President
Chandrika Kumaratunga Friday wrote to Opposition
Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe proposing a political
party conference to ensure that the forthcoming
elections are properly conducted."She's suggested three dates and
times and asked me to pick one of them,"
Wickremesinghe said.
Asked whether other parties too
are being invited, he said that the president
probably wanted to fix a date and time with him
and propose that to the others. He was due to
meet with Messrs. Gamini Atukorale, Karu
Jayasuriya and K.N. Choksy on Saturday to reply
the president's letter.
