- "Nothing
definite" she tells Asiaweek
Chandrika considering early
presidential election
President
Chandrika Kumaratunga has gone on record saying
that she is considering an early presidential
election, "but there is nothing
definite."Responding
to a question on whether she would call an early
presidential election in an interview with
Asiaweek after the recent World Economic Forum at
Davos, Switzerland, the president is quoted as
having replied: We are considering it - but there
is nothing definite. I am very keen to bring in
devolution (granting greater political power to
the Tamil dominated parts of the country) and as
the opposition is refusing to co-operate, we will
have to use the people.
