  • Five new Chinese gunboats to be deployed shortly
SLN takes delivery of British hovercraft
The Sri Lanka Navy [SLN] last week took delivery of a British built hovercraft as officials said that armed forces will seek more British armaments as the United Kingdom's policy on arms exports no longer bars arms sales to Sri Lanka.

An undisclosed number of British personnel who were here to conduct tests on the hovercraft left Colombo last week after completing their work, an authoritative security official said.

With the provincial elections over, it's time to prepare for the forthcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Pavements are over-crowded and sales are brisk as people throng to buy those traditional 'avurudhu' gifts for their near and dear ones.- (Pix by Nimal Dayaratne)
