Lightning strikes fireworks factory —one killed, three injured

Galle: Kariyawasam Haputhanthrige Somadasa (46) a resident of Elpitiya employed in a fireworks factory at Dadalla was killed on the spot when the building in which he was working was struck by lightning around 8.30 p.m. on April 04.

Somadasa was said to have been seated at the entrance of the building manufacturing fireworks with a radio switched on by his side. Three others who were in a room in the rear of the building had jumped through a window and were found to be in a state of shock. They were despatched to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

The building was completely gutted. The Fire Brigade of the Galle Municipal Council arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control.
