Tamil army officer killed by suicide bomber

Batticaloa - An LTTE suicide cadre yesterday blew up a Tamil army officer during an attack at Kandavanveli in the Batticaloa district. A captain of the ninth battalion of the Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) Muthulingham Ganeshakumar was killed when the bomber blew himself up at 1.30 pm. The attack took place at a garage.

Two others including another Tamil soldier of the same battalion were killed. One civilian also died in the blast. Eight more civilians were wounded, some of them seriously.

Troops later mounted a search operation in the area.
