Security in Batticaloa tightened

ERAVUR: Security measures in Batticaloa, Eravur and Chenkalady areas have been tightened.
Armed policemen have been deployed for duty at main roads, markets and its suburbs.
A police mobile is also conducted day and nights.
The infiltration of the pistol gang of the LTTE movement into the town areas in the Batticaloa district is on the increase.
Frequent bomb blasts and attacks of the LTTEers occur often. To combat terrorist activities in the area security arrangements are tightened in Batticaloa district according to security official sources.
The LTTE terrorists infiltrate area in disguise as civilians or sanitary labourers.
People should be vigilant enough on subversive activities of the LTTE and co-operate in arresting them, security officials said.
Houses for fisherfolk

ERAVUR: Steps has been taken to set up fifty houses at Palameenmadu in Batticaloa district for the benefit of homeless fisher families in the area.
An allocation of Rs. 2.5 million has been made by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development for this purpose.
Construction of houses will be implemented by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) Batticaloa.
The recipients of these houses will obtain their first payment of money on Monday (11.10.99) at a special ceremony to be held in Batticaloa.
Member of Parliament, Batticaloa, Joseph Pararajasingham will be the chief guest and issue the cash cheques to the recipients. Divisional Secretary Manmunai North, S. Punniyamoorthi will preside over the ceremony.
Drinking water and electricity facilities will also be made at this model village said a spokes man for the NHDA, Batticaloa.
