At a quick glance, the 2nd and 3rd coins look like early Islamic
fals. To be precise, they look like the "Jerboa" type fals from Hims
(Emesa), Syria. Cf., Album #178.2.

The two coins on the bottom are actually early Islamic copper coins
from Hims, in Syria. They portray a jerboa, a desert-dwelling
rodent. The coin on top is not easily identifiable because it lacks
inscriptions, but the lion is vaguely reminiscent of that found on
Mamluk Syrian coins.

The preservation of these coins is typical for Syria, and very unlike
those coins I have seen uncleaned from Ceylon. They have the typical
limey deposits, which I am informed is a result of the relatively arid
and alkaline soils of Syria.
