Obverse : Elephant Facing Left with CEYLON · GOV : in a arc above
and 1815 below the ground line within a plain circle and raised rim.
Reverse : 1/12 in the center within raised circle
F A N A M . along outer annulus.
The copper pattern appears to have been over-struck on a thin VOC Duit.
Comment by Pridmore
The appearance indicates local work-manship and it is seemingly a
pattern for a coinage which was intended to replace the tiny silver
fanam token issued in 1814. The denomination expressed by the
numerals is 1/12th of a Rix dollar, i.e. one fanam.
The specimen struck in copper is from a different die and is
over-struck on a Dutch Doit.
