Silver Scheepjes-Schelling

A variety of the Schelling of the United Province of West Friesland, Netherlands having on the a ship (Scheep) sailing right and known as the Scheepjes-Schelling. It was minted in West Friesland from 1673 to 1771.

Obverse : Crowned Arms of West Friesland: Two identicle horizontal lions standing left with front right paw raised, divides value 6 ST (6 Stuivers). Legend MO·NO.ORDIN.WEST·FRIESLAE, along the periphery within dash circle. The abbreviated Latin expands to Moneta Nova Ordinum West Frieslandia and translates as: "New Money of Province of West Frieslandia". Year of issue 1678
Reverse : Ship sailing right with 3 fully rigged masts with square sails. Latin Legend DEUS·FORTIUDO·ET·SPES·NOSTRA, Legend translates as: "God is our strength and hope".

Codrington X§26 Schellings (iii) Scheepjes-Schellings, from united provinces of Holand from 1671, West Friesland from 1673, Geldeeland from 1706, Zeeland from 1750 and Utrecht from 1753 are found in Lanka.

There are 10 types of Silver Scheepjes-Schellings from West Friesland listed in SCWC with slightly different legends depending on year of issue and Mint. This variety of Scheepjes-Schellings was issued from 1677 to 1679 and like the slightly older varieties were minted in private mint of Dirk Bosch in Enkhuizen.
Although the size: diameter, thickness and weight of the coin was increased to 26.7 mm 1.2mm and 4.95 grams after coin was next minted in 1705 the purity of silver was decreased to 0.583 to keep Actual Silver Weight (ASW) the same at 2.89 grams.

The VF condition coin was scanned at 600 dpi and displayed at 254 dpi.
It was won on Auction in 2019 July from a dealer in USA.
